Are we really too lazy to type www & .com?
A quick glance at the top ten search terms for the last seven days from those of us in the US shows one new term, but mostly many of the same that were there when I checked last week.
Once someone dies, especially in the case of celebrities, we can't help ourselves. We want to know every thing we can. Up to the minute news, never seen before video footage, rumors, truths, etc. We just have to know. That's why number one was no surprise.
Looking at the rest of the list though, my immediate thought is, "How lazy are you people?" Why are people using Google to find Facebook, Myspace, and Youtube? Is it too hard to type a www and a .com around the words? Do people really not know how to spell those?
Worse yet is seeing 'you' and 'my'. Go ahead, Google those words... you get Youtube and Myspace. Wow. Now that is lazy!
Top 10 Google search terms:
1. michael jackson
2. facebook
4. lyrics
5. youtube
6. yahoo
7. myspace
8. my
9. games
10. google
Lastly, you can see the top ten fastest growing search terms from the same period. They are fairly self explanitory even though I find it odd that the number one is a misspelling of Pop Star Michael Jackson's name.
Rising trends (nationally) for the week on Google:

People googling facebook and youtube isn't at all surprising. Many, many people have Google set as their home page in their browser. When you first open the page, the cursor is positioned in Google's search box. If you want to enter the URL directly in the address bar instead of using Google to search, you have to first wait for Google's page to fully load, then use your mouse to click on the address bar. Only then can you start typing the web address you want. On the other hand, if you just start typing, you can click "I'm feeling lucky" and be there in a fraction of the time.
Oh, and isn't it interesting that Kindall has misspelled "explanatory" in the very sentence that criticizes the misspelling of Michael Jackson's name?
