Mariah Carey. No other name in music is as polarizing. Either you love her or you hate her. There is no "meh".
So when she decides to stake the success of her newest effort on a cover of a timeless 1980s classic the Internet is going to have its say.
Foreigner released a song in the early 80s. A little number you have heard if you've been alive since 1990. This song was everywhere in its day, not unlike a Maroon 5 hit these days, or even a Miley Cyrus song.
Mariah is no stranger to covers, having layed her vocals over such classics as "I'll Be There" which she performed at Michael Jackson's funeral and "Open Arms" which to this day remains firmly cemented in the minds of many as the original performance of the song.
Music critics are as divided as listeners with some hailing the cover as a return for Mariah to the stylings that made her the highest selling female artist in history and second in #1 singles to only the Beatles.
Others are less than complimentary saying she's ripped off a song that didn't need to be retooled and that her once noteworthy voice has been reduced to a tinny-sounding reminder of what used to be.
Harsh!
Whether you love Mariah or Foreigner more or you hate both, when a star of Mariah Carey's magnitude remakes an 80s classic, you can be sure the Internet is going to buzz. As it's my job to bring you the buzz, may I humbly present the following leaked audio of Mariah's comeback single "I Wanna Know What Love Is".
To note: some say this version is not the final version as the actual radio cut is longer with another minute of choir-infused performance at the end. Fans also say her voice sounds unnaturally high as though this version was put through a filter. So, whether or not this is the final version, I'm betting it's pretty close to what we can expect to hear as Mariah Carey's "next big song".

Is she modeling a new Victoria's Secret Reader line I'm not familiar with?
I think this is a wonderful interpretation of the song. First of all, anyone who is angry at Mariah for touching a "classic" needs to reevaluate their taste in music. The original is very schmaltzy, something Mariah probably would have come up with in her early years. So to say that she should never sing this song is just ridiculous. She did great.
Its one of her best remakes
good job, she really shows everybody that she can make songs magicals
AMAzing mariah your a genius screw the haters mariah sold over 200million records without u fools
"and that her once noteworthy voice has been reduced to a tinny-sounding reminder of what used to be."
That's all that needs to be said. It sounds horrible. Like she isn't even trying
AND
She CANNOT SING LIVE ANYMORE!!!! This woman has become the biggest con artist in the game. How can you call yourself a "Vocalist" when you can't SING the song without the assistance of Miming or a backing track!?
The chick is a low class joke.
That is a hot picture but its old... it wasnt originally used for memoirs
Sounds screechy.
It was ok..it was better when she didn't stat trying to hit the high pitch squealy sound..I say, "Meh".
Mariah revived this track...made her own, her voice perfected it, you can't deny it is fab! I believe the same...its gonna hit the charts everywhere!

what can i say truly amazing her music has helped me though some dark times in my life i love her when she sing balads more than uptempo as it shows her vocal ability a old school type of 90s ballad cant wait 4 the album. ive been waitin too long
Mariah should really get some clothes on,it's just too revealing....
she came, sang and conquered!!!! it's a stellar classic mariah...
haters GO AWAY. Mariah is doing a great job on this song!
This is what brings us back to the angel of the album's title...MEMOIRS...destined to be a mega HIT! absolutely powerful deliverence...voice forever!
Mariah Carey is a sham diva. Auto-tunes, delayed albums, discounted singles, playback vocal performance & cover-version..all is done to save her dwindling career.
She ruins this beautiful song.
