The economy sucks! A few pundits think it's slowly getting better while other self-proclaimed experts think it's getting worse, but the core of it is that our economy is in a relative slump. Many of you reading this may be out of a job, worried that you may lose your job or just plain hate your job. For you lucky dogs who have a wonderful career and could not be happier, feel free to stick around and see why blogging is quickly becoming the new doorway into the self-sustaining world of entrepreneurship.
Many of the barriers to entry with starting a regular brick-n-mortar business are drastically reduced on the World Wide Web. Look at this from a new angle and view your opportunities in two different worlds.
There is the traditional, physical world where we sit at coffee shops and converse with our friends, drive our cars from point A to point B, and walk into shopping malls and bookstores to meet our needs. Then there is the World Wide Web where we chat with friends on Facebook and Twitter, click on links to take us to websites we want to visit, and buy books from Amazon and clothes from any number of our favorite stores who have their online retail websites.
You see, there is a whole new world of opportunity out there and you can absolutely fulfill your dreams of opening your own business online, and blog-based businesses are one of the best ways to achieve this. Here are eight reasons why.
8 Reasons Why You Should Start a Blog-Based Business
1) Blogging needs little investment. Compared with trying to open your boutique in the local strip mall, starting a blog-based business takes a fraction of a fraction of the costs (redundancy intended). Seriously. I launched my blog at a startup cost of less than $50 bucks.
2) You don't have to give up your day job. Whether you are wanting to become a full time, professional blogger or simply looking to make a couple extra hundred bucks a month, blogging lends itself to your already existing schedule. Opening a brick-n-mortar business can be very time consuming and may not even be possible when you are putting in 8 to 10 hrs a day in the cubicle. Starting a business in this traditional way means you have to coordinate your schedule with the schedules of various contractors and merchants. With blogging, you do not need to coordinate with others to build your business and you can go at your own pace.
3) Flexibility in business models. Many professional bloggers started off with the idea of blogging to make a few bucks. After learning more about the profession and how the Internet works they branched off into starting their own Internet marketing companies, grew their blog into full-fledged publishing websites and became best selling authors. You are only limited by your imagination and work ethic.
4) Internet marketing is more effective than traditional marketing. Traditional marketing is very good for reaching a mass audience but Internet marketing is much more tailored toward reaching targeted audiences. This allows for you to get the most out of your marketing dollars and increase your conversion rates. Read Internet Marketing vs. Traditional Marketing by @Edreamz for more info.
5) Performance feedback is better on the Web. Internet marketing is relatively more effective because of sites like Google Analytics, which allows you to evaluate your traffic sources, see what posts and pages of your blog get the most traffic, integrate any Google Adwords advertising you may be performing, and much more.
6) It's fun and fulfilling. When you spend your days doing something that you actually enjoy doing, your life becomes more meaningful. With blogging you can choose what topics and niches you want to base your new business around. Are you actually a wonderful chef trapped in a cubicle all day? Start your blog and create your own Youtube videos on how to cook different foods. After a few months of posting videos and recipes on your blog, you may have enough content to sell your own ebook!
7) A more flexible life. Bloggers can work at anytime from any place that has an Internet connection. I spend a great deal of time working in coffee shops and get to create my own schedule. This is ideal for people with families who may not have the flexibility to stay at home with sick kids or attend their soccer games or ballet recitals. Being your own boss and making a living on your own terms is a liberating feeling, and creating a blog-based business is a great opportunity to achieve this.
8) Many ways to make money. These days professional bloggers make money in so many different ways. They get paid through contextual advertising, affiliate marketing, selling their own ebooks and products, being ghost-writers for other websites, and the list goes on. The notion that a blog is simply an online journal could not be more misplaced. Everyday people are beginning their online careers with blogs and are finding fantastic success in doing so. In the world of business the money is wherever the people are and with an increasing number of information-seekers turning to the Internet to fulfill their needs, the opportunity to make money on the Internet is increasing rapidly. Any large company who wants to compete in this new age of business needs to have a presence on the Internet and they are beginning to figure this out. If they understand this philosophy then you should too because the opportunity is their for you to seize.
