Many of us who have Internet businesses spend time checking out what other people are doing. Are there things we could do differently to expand our business? Are there new products or services we can offer?

Yet I learned from viral marketing expert Barry Plaskow (www.barryplaskow.com) that, before looking outward for new business opportunities, one should look inward.

What does this mean in practical terms?

Let’s say you’re an Internet marketer of information products. You sell both your own products and those of other people. Now you want to expand your offerings so you start looking around cyberspace for other people’s products that you can sell.

Perhaps you should first look in your own backyard:

• Do you have a series of blog posts that could be bundled for an informative and valuable ebook?

• Do you have a teleseminar you did for your membership program that could be sold as a standalone informative teleseminar?

• Is there an expert you admire who would allow you to record an interview with him/her and sell the interview?

If you brainstorm as to what you have in your own material or what you can add to your own material, you may discover you have no need to go outside for more valuable material to sell. You may discover that you are sitting on top of some untapped gems of your own.
