www.radiogoldfield.org

Goldfield, an unincorporated community, is the county seat of Esmeralda County, Nevada, United States. It is about 170 miles southeast of Carson City, along U.S. Route 95. The population was 440 at the 2000 census, almost half of the county's population, though for several years in the early 20th century Goldfield was the largest town in Nevada.

Goldfield was a mining mecca in the first decade of the 20th century due to the discovery of gold, between 1903 and 1940, Goldfield's mines produced more than $86 million. While a small permanent population remains in Goldfield, it is largely a ghost town. Gold exploration still continues in and around the town today. (www.wikipedia.org)

Amidst the less than 400 people living there are radio duo of Carl and Dusty, On each Saturday night, between 7 and 9 PST, they Open the airwaves for the Carl and Dusty Radio Boogie, "A show about the town, by the town and of the town of Goldfield."Their mission is "To Promote Goldfield History, as being once the Largest City in Nevada 100 years ago, working closely with Goldfield Chamber of Commerce and Goldfield Historical Society, promoting community activities. Currently working with the Esmeralda School district to establish Broadcasting & Public Speaking curriculum for students. Also providing Music appreciation with the history of music from the 1930's to the current year. As well as providing News & Weather as well as Winter road conditions." (www.radiogoldfield.org)

This radio show is a great, somewhat undiscovered jewel of the air. Putting a modern flair on stories, they actually bring back fond memories of the old school radio hours. Frequent callers are always on air, including such colorful characters as Tumblweed, Steve From Boston and Reporter Dude. Frequent callers are labeled with nick names not just due to where they are from, but due to there attitude and style. There is everything on the Carl and Dusty Radio Boogie, from great music that spans the decades, commentary, call in and human interest stories. There is a also a great lively and friendly banter between Carl and Dusty and/or the callers of the evening. It is certainly worth the listen, even if you have to stay up and do so. You can listen live right on their website www.radiogoldfield.org. Remember though, they are only on, on Saturday nights from 10 to Midnight EST. Clips and recordings however are on 24/7.

Radio Goldfield is also known as KGFN 89.1 and is a Nevada Non Profit. As a non profit, they have many supporters through out this small community which are proudly listed on their site. You can also go to there site at www.radiogoldfield.org and download sound files of the entire show. You can easily put these on your Ipod for hours of enjoyment.

Dusty is also the proprietor of Dusty Fenders Grill 'n Fill, a great off the beaten path stop that your stomach will enjoy as much as your ears enjoy the Carl 'n Dusty Radio Boogie. They are in the high desert at 323 E Crook Ave Goldfield, NV 89013. Stop on by and tell them "Reporter Dude" sent ya.
