On a recent Google'ing, with the search string "top kids games for the Wii", one of the games that came up that had not been reviewed was the EA and Steven Spielberg collaboration called 'Boom Blox Bash Party'.
At first glance, it looks like "Brick Breaker meets Pong meets Tetris" which loosely translated means "Wicked Cool." Then toss in a few good pitches, shoot a few blox, pretend you are a kid again, and break blox after blox and move through level after level.
The play is simple, yet satisfying. You can throw to take out the blox, sling to take out the blox or even grab the blox to move them. There are many different types of blox, from the classic wooden that simply roll and topple, to the exploding chemical blox and the gem blox which sparkle when smashed.
There are three modes to play in;
- Single Player Mode
- Versus which is multi-player
- Co-op which is also multi-player where you can team up and 'Bash Blox' as a team
You can also create and download (downloading requires you to know your friends Wii friends code and visa versa) new levels. You will need to connect your Wii to the internet to download new levels. The Internet and Technology examiner has written a tutorial on that, called 'Don't Surf the web, Wii it', which can be read HERE or take a look at the link to the left.
This game is a treat for the senses, both eyes and ears. The colors and graphics are, as expected up to par with the great graphics that makes the Wii, the Wii. EA has gone to great lengths to bring you a great addition to the Boom Blox Original game which is also a top seller still. The comical mischief and antics as you go through the game are both amusing and adicting. I kept telling myself, one more level, one more area. Two hours later it was time to write the review. Thus far, able to get through the "training" level (which is fun but needed), the writers favorite area is is "Space" and the prefered blox busting tool is the sling shot. However, buy it yourself and you be the judge. You won't be sorry, you'll be laughing.
Not withstanding EA's great reputation as gaming pioneer, this is one of the top kids games for many reasons. You will be in for a slingshottin', cannon shootin', virus bloxin' and paint ballin' rip roarin' good 'ol time. This good 'ol time will not be just for the kids, it is a family game and all ages will enjoy it. Do not take my word for it.
You can also check out the Boom Blox Bash Party Facebook fan page and then mosey on to Amazon.com for a great deal.
Put this one on your last minute gift lists for kids of all ages. Don't forget to register your game so you can get hints, cheats, etc.
