10 biggest consumer-electronics stories of 2009

Asside from Black Friday, Cyber Monday and various sell off's and buy outs, what made CEA news in 2009 ?

With a positive intro from Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of CEA, the top news stories ranged from the Circuit City Liquidation to the Droid release and more.

On the retail front, CEA's 16th Annual CE Holiday Purchase Patterns study found that consumers plan to spend an average of $222 on CE products this holiday, a gain of 8% over last year. The study tracks CE devices consumers intend to give as gifts, as well as those they hope to receive. Consumer electronics make up four of the top 10 items on adults' holiday gift wish list, with computers including notebooks and laptops, and video games ranking two and three, respectively, behind clothing.

Some new attractions generating a lot of CES buzz are i-Lounge, for iPod- and iPhone-related software and apps; Sustainable Planet, with a focus on green and sustainable technologies; Living in Digital Times, with its expanded focus on seniors, moms, digital health, higher ed and kid tech; and the eBooks Tech Zone. Plus CES has a lineup of keynotes that is unsurpassed. Come walk the show floor, learn, meet with others and conduct business. I hope to see you there.

As for the top 10 read articles, the range from the Circuit City meltdown to the Droid, to eReaders;
