Years of World Cup preparations in South Africa including building new stadiums and repairing old ones have come down to the final event, Spain versus the Netherlands. The last semi final just finished and Spain defeated Germany (see minute by minute updates at www.fifa.com) by a score of 1 to 0, putting Spain in their first ever World Cup final.
A few years ago I spent about ten days in South Africa including Durban, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, and Capetown. The semi final match between the Netherlands and Uruguay was held Tuesday at the new Green Point Capetown Stadium and the event was mystical, with nearly 150,000 fans. Check out how the FIFA described the evening at this link.
Tourism should benefit in the years ahead drawing the eyes of the world to this southern most country in Africa. South Africa has a good vibe and has one of the most beautiful and diverse countrysides in the world. From surfing to safaris, you'll find your perfect holiday there. The official South Africa Tourism board website is packed with useful tools to make your visit easier.
The final event to the 2010 World Cup takes place July 11th at Soccer City in Johannesburg. For more travel insights, subscribe to my examiner site at International Travel Insights Examiner.
