The Chef's Table at Cambridge Beaches
Reported by J.S. Fletcher & By Kathy Newbern
In an exquisite Bermuda setting, travelers can boost their confidence in the kitchen, while learning more about healthy eating with Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa’s new Cooking Well Weekend escape.
We say exquisite because we've had the pleasure of staying at Cambridge Beaches, a stunning cottage colony overlooking gorgeous water views. The spa alone is worth the visit, but now there's the chance for healthy cooking, too.
The culinary workshop is a new addition to this AAA Four-Diamond resorts’ longstanding series of wellness retreats, designed for travelers seeking enriching and rejuvenating travel experiences. The hands-on program allows budding home chefs, newlyweds, mothers and daughters, girlfriends, and, of course, couples to enjoy a relaxing Bermuda retreat, while gaining culinary
expertise and knowledge about quick and nutritional solutions for everyday dining.
Chef Laurie Erickson will host the November 5-8, 2009 culinary weekend away. She is a leading health and wellness consultant and author of the recently released CHEF by STEP® cookbook. Chef Laurie will share her expertise in preparing simple and nutritious meals, creating a healthier lifestyle and improving overall wellness. She promises the culinary class will offer everyone, from beginning cooks to culinary aficionados, a realistic approach to cooking easy, complete and delicious meals that are good for you – covering everything from shopping smarter to chopping faster.
The Cooking Well Weekend Package is available as an add-on to accommodations at $229 per person and includes cooking classes with Chef Laurie, wine tasting
, welcome reception, 50-minute massage, 20 percent off all additional spa treatments and special exercise classes, such as Pilates and yoga. A minimum three-night stay is required. Nightly rates start at $385 and include daily breakfast. As a part of the package, additional nights can be booked at 50 percent off the standard room rate.
As a health and wellness consultant to resorts and corporations across the globe, Chef Laurie provides professional culinary education with classes on nutrition and lifestyle, personalized menu design and food shopping consultations. Chef Laurie has served on the culinary teams of famed resorts and spas and has been a mentor and instructor to culinary students attending the Culinary Institute of America, Johnson and Wales University, and the New England Culinary Academy. Her professional insights and recipes have appeared in national publications including Family Circle, Best Life magazine, Men’s Health and The Wall Street Journal.
“With Chef Laurie’s professional insight, our guests can take a little time away from their busy lives and celebrate the joy of living healthy and eating well,” says Michael Winfield, Cambridge Beaches’ President. “We hope our participants will learn easy recipes, acquire unique cooking skills and embrace new lifestyle habits, all while relaxing at our tranquil, intimate resort.”
