Nancy Janes of Romanian Animal Rescue (RAR) has emailed the International Pet Examiner with a street dog story, this one with a happy ending.
Elizabeth is a scruffy little stray who was living on the streets of Braila, Romania. She was hit by a car and left paralyzed. She was taken to a facility where the dog would be euthanized because of her condition. Somehow Elizabeth did not get put down and she ended up back on the streets of Braila moving forward using her front legs since her rear legs no longer worked. Romania Animal Rescue was contacted and a local RAR member found her.
Named for a friend of Janes who wanted to help the dog, RAR and friends came together. After posting photos along with the story of her plight, donors came to Elizabeth's rescue. With the help of Kerry Pember of Disabled Dog Rescue in the UK, Elizabeth would be given a second chance. She spent a week at a vet clinic in Zurich where she did have to have one paw amputated because of a severe infection. Her trip to her new foster home was then delayed by the Iceland volcano eruption. Finally she arrived at a foster home in Gibraltar.
Elizabeth is soon coming to the US to live with a new family in Lakewood, CA, near Los Angeles. RAR is currently raising money to pay her travel costs. Anyone interested in donating, click here. Her arrival date is scheduled for August 6 and everyone is looking forward to seeing how far this little dog has come, both geographically and physically.

What a lucky, lucky dog Lizzie is! Thank you to Romania Animal Rescue and all who helped this wonderful dog find a new life.
Animals all over the world need help to live better lives. Everyone who contributes to the betterment of just one life, makes a world of difference to that one animal, and just may encourage someone else to do the same.
Thank you for saving Lizzie.
Carrie thank you so much for writing this article about Elizabeth! All the very best to you!
Nancy
I saw the pictures, knowing Lizzie's story. The last picture is striking, who took it had a great insight of this story. It shows only the eyes of the dog, leaving aside her tormented body, which makes the connection with her past. if you didn't see the other pictures before, you would see just a dog like any others. this picture suggests you the dog's life has changed now. it shows you the good side of things, hidding what needs to be hidden. Lizzie was lucky to resist and to met such special people. Thank you, Nancy Janes for all you do for dogs and humans!
I would like to add that RAR has reported that enough money has been raised to cover Elizabeth's airfare to the states. Looking forward to updates on her arrival later this month.
