Actor/comedian Leslie Jordan calls himself "the gayest man I know," and with good reason. The Tennessee native told the AP, "Honey, I fell right out of the womb and smack dab into my mama's high heels."
Jordan, who you may remember as Karen Walker's (Megan Mullally) pint-sized arch nemesis on NBC's "Will & Grace", or as the hilarious Tammy Wynette-obsessed Brother Boy from the movie and series "Sordid Lives" by Del Shores, has his very own Broadway show titled, "My Trip Down The Pink Carpet" (based on his book of the same name).
In the show, the Emmy Award-winning star treats his audience to celebrity-laden cabaret songs (Boy George! George Clooney!), stories about his conservative upbringing and his unlikely career in Hollywood. "I am such a showoff. One of my huge character defects is that I love to talk dirty and shock people," he says.
But the show is not all knee-slapping fun and laughs - Jordan delves into his own homophobic self-loathing and battles with a drug-addicted lifestyle, which are unfortunately all too common among LGBT people.
But mostly, it's pure guilty pleasure entertainment. Jordan's witty, energetic delivery, combined with his thick Southern drawl, amusing colloquialisms and obvious enjoyment of his own words, make for a fast-paced and thoroughly enjoyable show.
"My Trip Down The Pink Carpet" in New York City is the culmination of a nationwide tour, and is being produced by Lily Tomlin and her partner, Jane Wagner. The show is set for a limited 12-week run at the Midtown Theater.
"Pink Carpet" opens tomorrow, April 21. For tickets, click here.
