Nicklaus North Golf Club, Whistler, British Columbia
Site of 2010 Winter Olympics competition on Blackcomb and Whistler mountains, Whistler, British Columbia is the leading golf destination in Canada, with four spectacular courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones Jr and Robert Cupp.
Big Sky Golf & Country Club's Academy course in the valley below Whistler village opens April 3; the championship course opens April 15. Whistler Golf Club, Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club and Nicklaus North Golf Course will open May 7 (potential for earlier depending on weather).
45 minutes south, Furry Creek Golf and Country Club is a challenging course that makes a nice stop on the way to or from Whistler. This Robert Muir Graves design comes with ocean views and sea breezes off the fjord-like inlet of Howe Sound, where jagged mountains seem to rise right out of the water. The clubhouse here has gorgeous views and really good food.
Now permanent tourist attractions, stunning 2010 Olympics public venues remain in Whistler village: Whistler Sliding Centre, Whistler Olympic Park and Whistler Medals Plaza, among other installations.
