Who doesn't love the fresh scent of lemons? To me, it's one of the best scents in the world! But, not only do lemons smell terrific, they are also great for many household uses. Did you know that fresh-cut lemons are terrific for cleaning?

Today, we'll look at 10 helpful household uses for lemons. Lemons are great to use around the house because they are inexpensive, they leave everything smelling fresh and vibrant, and they are environmentally friendly. Lemons can be used in many ways around the house, but here are my favorite 10 helpful household uses for lemons:

  • Remove foul odors from your garbage disposal by grinding pieces of lemon in it.
  • Repel ants, fleas and cockroaches with lemons.  Simply squeeze the juice from one lemon and add it to a gallon of water.  Mop the floor with the lemon water to keep bugs away.
  • Remove water spots and lime scale build up.  Rub shower doors and sink faucets with a lemon cut in half to keep them looking sparkling fresh.
  • Keep cats from urinating indoors.  Combine fresh lemon juice and water and store it in a squirt bottle.  When the cat urinates, clean the area with the mixture to eliminate urine and odor and keep the cat from going in the same spot.
  • Kill weeds.  Squeeze a lemon on weeds in the garden to make them disappear.  Just remember to keep the juice away from flowers as it can kill hem.
  • Brighten laundry.  Instead of soaking laundry in harsh bleach, soak them in lemon juice instead.  It will brighten clothes and leave them smelling fresh.
  • Make dishes shine.  Add half a lemon to your dishwasher to make glassware shine.  No spots!
  • Make socks look new.  Toss socks into a pot of boiling water mixed with a whole lemon cut in half.  Socks will come out looking new.
  • Eliminate unpleasant odors.  Rub a cutting board with half a lemon to get rid of smelly odors.
