That’s right! You heard it here first. Color is dead. According to Benjamin Moore Paints, one of the color trends for 2009 is no color.
I hear this question almost every day, "What color is in?" I find this a very curious question. You all want to know about color, yet you are still living with white walls! I know you. I've been in your homes! Well, here’s great news for all of you white-walled people. No color is the new color.

I recently attended the Winter Market Conference for Interior Designers at the San Francisco Design Center .I wish that you all could have been there. Here are a few ideas that I want to share with you.
Benjamin Moore recently introduced their new color palette collection for 2009. It’s full of non-colors. It’s a blend of subtle hues and tints of the colors of earth. One collection is called Nature’s Essence. It is soft and serene and organic. The collection includes Sea Haze 2137-50 and White Sand OC-10 and Hazy Skies OC-48. Great news for all of you white-walled apartment dwellers.
The story does not’t end there. You can’t just throw your stuff around a sterile white room and call it a day. Here’s the catch. In order to make whites and non-colors work, it has to look like it was done on purpose. It's tricky. You have to use it on more than just the walls.
You have to be intentional and use it as accents. A great way to do that is with white pillows, throws, art, accessories, lamps and even furniture. Yes, you can find dog-friendly and kid-friendly fabrics. In fact, if it is slip covered, a little bleach can make it look brand new as often as you want!
I LOVE white rooms, done the “white way.” The easiest way is to use textures and tones. I love to layer white linens, creamy painted wood, white fur, milk glass, white ceramic, polished nickel and…and…and. The list goes on and on.
Don’t forget your plants and good lighting. They are the two secret ingredients that bring any room to life!
- Place a potted orchid on your bathroom
- Put a large banana leaf palm in that awkward corner
- Switch to dimmer switches
- Add a small lamp near your kitchen sink

Is this your first time going white? Start in a small space like your home office or guest bath. Remember, layers and textures are your friends.
