Maricopa Community Colleges of the West Valley are offering several art classes for this fall's semester. Each class listed below will be held at Glendale Community College (GCC), or Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC). For drawing classes see previous article.
Color (ART113) 3 Credits
Investigation seeking visual solutions to a variety of problems concerning color in two and three dimensions and modes of color appearances, including light and effects in design and theory of design. Prerequisites: ART/ADA112. ~ GCC
Sculpture I (ART151) 3 Credits
Exploration of sculptural form and expression in clay, plaster, stone, wood and metal. Prerequisites or Corequisites: ADA/ART115 or permission of Instructor. ~ GCC
Glass Fusing and Slumping I (ART155) 3 Credits
Introduction to the basics involved in glass fusing and slumping. The concepts of glass, glass fusing, and glass slumping will be covered with hands-on experience using a variety of techniques to create finished glass projects such as jewelry, dishes, frames, and door bells. Prerequisites: None. Note: ART155 may be repeated for a total of 12 credits. ~ GCC
Ceramics I (ART161) 3 Credits
Introduction to ceramic materials and techniques of hand construction, decorating, glazing and throwing on potters' wheel. Prerequisites: None. ~GCC
Ceramics II (ART162) 3 Credits
Major emphasis on wheel throwing, glaze making and decorating techniques. Prerequisites: ART161. ~ GCC
Watercolor Painting I (ART165) 3 Credits
Transparent and Gouache watercolor painting. Prerequisites: (ART111 and ADA/ART112), or permission of Instructor. ~ GCC
Watercolor Painting II (ART166) 3 Credits
Painting in water soluble media. Emphasis on individual techniques and design. Prerequisites: ART165. ~ GCC
Painting I (ART167) 3 Credits
Exploration of technical and expressive possibilities of various painting media in easel painting. Prerequisites: (ART111 and ADA/ART112), or permission of Instructor. ~ GCC, EMCC
Painting II (ART168) 3 Credits
Continued refinement of painting skills and investigation of new possibilities in painting. Prerequisites: ART167 or permission of Instructor. ~ GCC
Sculpture III (ART251) 3 Credits
With emphasis on attention to individual problems and techniques. Prerequisites: ART152. ~ GCC
Sculpture IV (ART252) 3 Credits
Advanced sculpture problems and professional practices. Prerequisites: ART251. ~ GCC
Ceramics III (ART261) 3 Credits
Emphasis on wheel throwing skill and individual style development. Prerequisites: ART162. ~ GCC
Ceramics IV (ART262) 3 Credits
Experimental work in clays and glazes. Prerequisites: ART261. ~ GCC
Watercolor Painting III (ART265) 3 Credits
Continuation of watercolor painting with emphasis on control and expression. Prerequisites: ART166 ~ GCC
Watercolor Painting IV (ART266) 3 Credits
Advanced problems directed toward more personal expression. Prerequisites: ART265. ~ GCC
Painting III (ART267) 3 Credits
Development of materials and techniques of painting. Individual problem-solving. Prerequisites: ART168 or permission of Instructor. ~ GCC
Painting IV (ART268) 3 Credits
Advanced problem in painting. Study with greater emphasis on personal expression. Prerequisites: ART267 or permission of Instructor. ~ GCC
