Decorate your interior walls with creative wallpaper ideas

Say the word wallpaper to a new homeowner and they may go from happy to not so happy very quickly. The word alone makes many people cringe while visions of granny's living room dance in their heads.  The removal process in itself is enough to make most homeowners curse wallpaper and the press it rolled out on.  The truth is gone are the days of migraine inducing floral patterns, we’re not dealing with Aunt Betty’s in your face kitchen walls anymore. Wallpaper has come a long way and has been updated to appeal to the most design savvy and it can be a great inexpensive way to update any room in your home.  Follow these tips and not only will you love your homes new look you might even like wall paper.

1.  A little goes a long way.  We know you love love love that modern pattern you found on 2modern.com but resist temptation to put it on every wall in the house.  Use paper like you would paint for an accent wall, on one wall.  Choose a wall that you want to be the focal point of the whole room.  To create immediate impact, paper the wall that you see first when walking into the room. Another great way to showcase wallpaper is to do a chair rail and paper the top while keeping the bottom a neutral coordinating paint color.  Whatever you do, keep it simple and classy.

2.  Wallpaper is art.  Still a little weary of committing to pasting?  No problem, take baby steps and try framing it like you would a great piece of art.  Explore Farrow and Ball for some gorgeous artistic patterns.  Be bold and try a piece in a 30x30 frame above the couch or fireplace for a great conversation focal point.  Or get creative and try the gallery look by framing three harmonizing patterns in matching frames.  Simple and chic, isn't wallpaper fun?

3.  Sleep on it.  Tired of your old headboard and don't know what to do?  Throw it out and put wallpaper on the wall the head of your bed rests on.  To get the best look center your bed on the wall with a night stand on either side.  Don't be afraid to experiment with different patterns.  Most websites/wallpaper stores will give you samples just as they will with paint, try a few out and see what works for you.  For a truly dramatic look add a curtain rod the width of your wall and add a velvet curtain panel on either side.  Oh la la!

If you are still unsure take a trip you your local paint/wall covering store and peruse the books for some ideas (Roxborough

DURON Paint).  With all the updated patterns to chose from you're sure to find something to fit your style.  Have fun, be bold, and happy pasting!
