Christie's Interiors, 2007
Last night, Christie's held a Young Collector's Night to promote auctioning in the next generation. The evening began with a lecture on "the art of framing" led by Larson-Juhl Art Manager, Anne Katz.
After the half hour segment, the night proceeded with two open floors of classic interior furnishings and accessories. The new "elite-in-training" gathered into small groups as they sipped white wine and discussed pop culture. It was evident that many young attendees had little to no interest in art/decor. There were a few who expressed interest in the showrooms and offered prior knowledge.
The Young Collector's Night was stolen by seasoned design veterans. Many golden agers took time to view each classic piece and even rearranged them to showcase each item in its best light. Great discussions were held about the influence of eras on the furnishings.
Christie's Interiors first surfaced in 2002 to expand the auction powerhouse into the world of interior design. Generating an average of $25 million in sales a year, Christie's maintains its dominance as a force to be recogned with in the art and decor world.
