IKEA Store
IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, announced in September that it is submitting plans to the City of Centennial, Colorado for a store The Swedish retailer has a strong presence in the western United States and a store in Colorado would only increase that. This may be old news to some people, but I am really excited for an IKEA to come to the area.
The 400,000-square-foot proposed IKEA Centennial will have 1,700 parking spaces and would be built on 13.5 acres along the western side of Interstate-25 in the Park Meadows area. It will be accessible from the Dry Creek Road and County Line Road exits. The store plans will reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known for worldwide. The government approval process for the plans is now underway.
There are more than 280 IKEA stores in 36 countries. IKEA Centennial would feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a restaurant serving Swedish dishes as well as American. Other family-friendly features would include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the showroom, baby-care rooms, preferred parking and play areas throughout the store.
In addition to 500 jobs that are expected to be created during the construction phase, approximately 400 coworkers would join the IKEA family when the new store opens. IKEA Centennial would provide significant annual sales and property tax revenue for local governments and schools.
A store opening date has not been determined yet. But with the closest stores in Tempe, Arizona or Draper, Utah you can be sure that most of us will not be planning road trips for it just yet. IKEA will bring existing Colorado customers a store near them and it will also introduce other Coloradans to the unique IKEA product selection and shopping experience.
