Teenage Daughter's Room in 2009 SF Decorator Showcase house
Mothering a teen fashionista is a mixed blessing. They appreciate style but can take forever to pull together an ensemble to cover their raging hormonal bodies each morning and make it to school on time. Since they do spend many hours primping in their rooms, they should have rooms that are as joyful and colorful as their young spirits.
Designer Palmer Weiss sees the teen room as a space that “walks the balance between playful youth and a more mature femininity,” and that is how she set about staging this Teenage Daughter’s Room in the 2009 San Francisco Decorator Showcase house.
The focal point is the custom daybed topped with a canopy and draperies swathed in a blue paisley block print textile from China Seas, carried by Quadrille. Weiss repeated the pattern on the walls and accented the bed with ikat patterned pillows from Madeline Weinrib (who does ikat better?) to reinforce the upscale, bohemian theme.

“The teenager of the house possesses a happy blend of sophisticated and fun and her bedroom décor reflects her personality,” says Weiss. Let’s just hope she keeps it neater than my young teen, a girl greatly challenged in the room grooming department.
Added touches in this gorgeous space include a display board tacking up Coldplay concert tickets and fashion clippings and a West Elm Sheepskin Rug to keep the girl’s toes warm once she kicks off her Uggs.
A nice flow is achieved in the bath off the room, designed by Nancy Van Natta with a Chanel attitude. Bright white walls are accented with shades of fuchsia, violet and pink. Juicy raspberry bath cabinets are hand painted with a glossy finish and the shower glass has been stamped with little emblems that resemble Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle labels. But the scene stealer in this room is the wall size disco babe depicted in the back-lit glass inlay. High five, sister soul!

Any teen would be lucky to call these spaces home. Getting her to leave and come down for breakfast might depend on the number of mirrors in the kitchen or breakfast room. Mirrors are seemlingly crucial elements for our teen daughters, at times even more important than the shower.
