Lord of the Rings House

This unique 3,500-square-foot multilevel home called "Middle Earth" was built in 1975 by local architect Ian Morrison, who took inspiration for the design from Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings.” A vacation house in Barbados that seems to draw much of its inspiration from the fictional, Elven city of Rivendel. The home is perched on an elevated site overlooking Chalky Mount and the east coast of Barbados. Located in the center of the Island in St Joseph, a parish that extends from the middle of the island to the eastern coast. The architecture was influenced by the Sardinian style of design with concrete that is sculpted to form curved whitewashed walls, corridors and rooms. This incredible home also features pickled wooden floors and ceilings and wallaby posts throughout.  The house style is open and breezy, with the majority of the rooms exposed to the outdoor elements. The home is surrounded by exquisite gardens and mature trees, an outdoor patio, pool, a gazebo sheltering a bathtub and glimpses of the Atlantic Ocean beyond the rugged hills of St. Joseph. Via

I see the connection with the movie. It's like a little hobbit house, all the wood and greenery, the low sloped ceilings. Maybe all the white is inspired by the Elvin homes.

I love it! The openness of the home to the exteriors, the surrounding nature, and the beautiful craftmanship of the home, all so wonderful.

Lovely, and you'd have to have magical cleaner to keep all that white clean. Also, where are the books? Where are the book shelves?

Nice house. But I do not think it is similar in look or style to anything from the LOTR movies or books. It's more like something your average "California Millionare" would build.
