Thinking about updating your bathroom? The bathroom is one of those rooms that everyone visits at some point during the day. Why not make it a pleasant place to visit? There are several things you can do to make your bathroom look better without breaking the bank or having to call a plumber or contractor.

The first thing you will want to do is clean the bathroom. Check out Don Aslett’s store for the latest in cleaning products. A shiny, clean smelling bathroom is a great start.

Speaking of clean smelling, check out the Ginger Peach candles at Pier One. They smell fantastic and are just the thing to freshen up your bathroom. The beautiful peach color is a great color to infuse throughout the room too. Red with a pinker look is one of the more popular colors right now according to the Color Marketing Group.

Some easy ways to brighten up the bathroom are to change your towels and shower curtain. Choose from the colors that are hot right now. In addition to the pinker-red color, choose from a yellow that has a little bit of gray, a green that is bright and has a hint of blue, a blue that feels luxurious and has a grayish feeling to it, or a beige-brown that will pick up whatever color it is next to.  The beige-brown will really go with the ever popular neutrals. Last, but not least, you could choose a neutral gray that has just a tiny bit of purple in it. Check out Sherwin Williams Stir if you are interested in learning more about current popular colors.

Another good way to add some color to your bathroom is to paint. For best results, use acrylic enamel paint in the bathroom. If you elect to paint, wash your walls first or the paint will end up peeling off and your effort will be wasted. Be careful that an oil-based paint was not used on the walls. If it was, you will need to use a primer or use oil-based paint again. The only drawback to using an oil-based paint is that it takes so long to dry and it is really messy to clean-up; unlike the acrylic that is water clean-up. You will want to use acrylic enamel in the gloss finish for the best water-repelling properties.

Replace the handles on your bathroom vanity. It is an easy change out and only requires a screw driver to complete the task. Any of the local big boxes, ACE, Fred Meyer and Target have great assortments. Make sure you take one of your existing handles with you or measure the distance between the screws so that you can easily change the handles. The easiest handles to open and close cabinets are the D-shaped handles. Keep in mind the finish of your faucet and door knob for a cohesive look in your bathroom.

Speaking of faucets, this is also an easy change-out if you can follow written instructions. The prices range from low to really high on these so keep this in mind. Usually the really low cost faucets are not designed to last so you could be changing it again before you are ready too. This is one accessory that you may want to invest a little bit of money in since the water here in Idaho is not all that soft.

If you feel the need to change your flooring but do not want to spend your time laying tile, check out the newer vinyl flooring. Home Depot has a great video about why vinyl flooring is a great flooring choice. It is easy to lay and very easy to keep clean. Absolutely no sealing of grout or refinishing required. Lowes has great in-stock choices too.

Giving your bathroom a brand new look does not have to cost a bundle or take months to accomplish. Some fresh color, new towels, new flooring, handles or a faucet can all accomplish the fresh look you desire.
