April 22 – Today is Earth Day, a day for celebrating our planet and all she has given us. Take some time today to give back to her by decorating your home with green decorations. Here are some ideas to help you out:
Earth Day decorations: potted plants and trees
Give back to Mother Nature by potting some plants. Plant some flowers or small trees and scatter them around the house. Once they get too big for the pots, plant them somewhere outdoors and let them grow.
Earth Day decorations: tin can pots
If you use canned goods, you probably have a few aluminum cans lying around. Recycle them into pots for those flowers, or if they are too small, grow herbs in them. Decorate the tin cans with paints, fabric, stickers, markers…anything that you have available.
Earth Day decorations: tin can pencil holders
Those tin cans may also be used to design your own pencil holders. Decorate them any way you would like, and have fun! Then use them to store your pencils or small office supplies.
Earth Day decorations: bowls of fruit
Buy locally grown produce. Arrange it in decorative bowls and place them on the table as a centerpiece. Be sure to wash the produce ahead of time so it will be ready to eat throughout the day.
Earth Day decorations: cereal box magazine holder
If you are anything like me, you have piles of magazines sitting around and don’t know what to do with them. Organize them by making empty cereal boxes into magazine holders. First, cut the top off the cereal box. Then, starting at the top, cut at a 45 degree angle across the side, cut across the end, then cut back up at a 45 degree angle. Then decorate the box any way you would like – paint, decoupage, scraps of fabric…
Today is Earth Day and April is Earth Month, but we can live green all year round. For more ways to help celebrate Earth Day every day, visit
