Concert for global peace

The vision for world peace is the impetus for many who have lived through the violence of a war torn area. Nenad Bach, the renowned featured  artist and composer for the Concert for Global Peace, is such a person. Bach, a Croation native,  lived through the Bosnian war, and has taken up the mantle as a pursuer of peace, passionately playing to heal and bring unity to actualize world peace. Through the unifyng power of music, he played benefit concerts during the Balkan war, and found his niche writing and performing music that is relevant to the struggle.

The KC International Visitors Council, in conjunction with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, will host this event tomorrow evening at Rose Theater of Rockhurst High School at 7:30 p.m. Also performing will be Don Lipovac on accordian, and the International Graduate Students of the Conservatory of Music and Dance will  play flute, piano, and viola. Additionally, a woman from China playing the gin, and an Irish tenor will provide entertainment for the evening. Former Mayor Richard Berkeley will  be awarded the Citizen Diplomacy Award to climax the event. This award is in honor of John C. Dodds, III, a champion of the International Visitors Council program and concept.

The International Visitors Council is another of Kansas City's best kept secrets. The International Visitors Council believes that by opening lines of communication through international exchanges a viable way of breaking down barriers exists. Barbara Doki, Executive Director of the local organization says, "Programs we administer like this one can have far-reaching effects both locally and internationally. The delegates experience freedom and democracy first-hand and see the real America through meeting the good people of Kansas City. You become Citizen Diplomats as you open your businesses, homes and hearts. They experience American openness, honesty and warmth and the genuine spirit that dispels propaganda and media misinformation.."

The faith communities would do a tremendous service by supporting this event. Proceeds will help support the International Visitor Leadership program of the State Department. Kansas City has been host to the first Iranian delegation in the United States since 1979.

Tickets for the concert can be obtained at Rockhurst High School, 9301 State Line Road, for $30. For more information, call (816) 235-6222.
