Spiritual Women's Gathering Thursday evening, October 15, 2009

Women, mark your calendars for Thursday evening, October 15 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.  Houston Interfaith Ministries is hosting the next Spiritual Women's Gathering at The Shrine of the Black Madonna Church, Cultural Center and Bookstore at 5309 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Houston (map).

The Greater Houston Amazing Faiths Project sponsors dinners and dialog for Houston women three times a year at different host locations.  Women meet for a brief presentation, then engage in small group dialog over dinner (a culturally sensitive meal), all provided by the host location.  This time, The Church of the Black Madonna will be giving a presentation about their faith community, and afterward, women will have a chance to engage in discussion and ask questions about what they have learned as they share a meal.

Amazing Faiths' and Houston Interfaith Relations Manager Lauren Santerre, enthusiastically recommends visiting the Shrine of the Black Madonna if you have never visited.  The Shrine of the Black Madonna is a congregation of the Pan African Orthodox Christian Church, with locations in Houston, Detroit, Atlanta and Calhoun Falls, South Carolina.  At the Houston location resides a cultural center and bookstore, in addition to the church sanctuary.  The presentation promises to be very informative, and discussion afterward will allow women to make new connections and to enhance the spiritual understanding of another faith tradition for those who attend..

Amazing Faiths Project is a nationwide program that hosts other events as well.  The group hosts annual Dinner Dialogs, where participants in several cities across the United States gather to share a meal and share information about their faith.  We all know breaking bread with someone is a special experience, and meeting over dinner to share our faith tradition with others and to listen with open ears to others tell us of their faith traditions is a very meaningful thing.

A donation drive for Dress for Success, a program for women reentering the workforce, is being held at the dinner. A new or gently used clothing item will be greatly appreciated when you arrive at the dinner.
