Since it is back to school time, I thought I would revive a good story by Marine Major Brian Dennis, made into a children's book and soon-to-be movie. Major Dennis is originally from St. Pete Beach, Fl., currently stationed in San Diego.
Marine Major Brian Dennis was stationed in Iraq when he befriended a stray dog. He and his troop all took care of this dog but Major Dennis formed a strong bond with him. They named him "Nubs" because he actually does have nubs for ears; it was learned that one of the local Iraqi men had cut his ears. Despite the bond that Major Dennis had formed with Nubs, he was ordered to relocate to another station. Two days later, "Nubs" showed up! He had tracked Major Dennis down, 70 miles through the desert. The story was condensed into a great children's book called, Nubs:The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle. Although the book is recommended for ages 4 to 8, the story is amazing for anyone at any age. The movie in the works by Warner Bros., will be written and directed by Justin Zackham, producer of The Bucket List.
