Mini Mango Thai Bistro opened this past Sunday, adding to the growing list of asian restaurants in Downtown Napa. Owners Mee and Cherry Pengchareon operated the former Signature Thai restaurant in San Rafael for seven years until family matters called them back to native Bangkok a couple of years ago. They are now back in the Bay Area serving classic Thai comfort food at reasonable prices, in a cozy space on Clay Street convenient to all of Downtown Napa. Chef Cherry is Cordon Bleu trained but she draws inspiration from the recipes of her mother and grandmother for her dishes.
Some of the classic Thai dishes on the menu include chicken satay, Thai-style grilled skirt steak with mint and citrus vinaigrette, chicken coconut soup, pad thai, ten tiger prawns with curry, kaffir lime and cashews, kabocha squash red curry and seafood with green curry. One of their house specialties is an "Eight elements wrap", lemongrass marinated grilled shrimp combined with coconut, peanuts, lime and other ingredients wrapped in spinach.
The dishes are bright and pungeant and flavorful, created with traditional Thai ingredients such as fresh aromatic herbs, spices and citrus. The bistro is working on its wine and beer list which will complete the dining experience.
