Technology is all around us today, and we use it everyday from the time we get up to the time we sleep. Our alarm clocks have radios that receive wireless transmission or even play mp3s. Our cell phones (which are by now actually digital) receive and transmit voice and data wirelessly. When we travel to our destination we have our iPod or mp3 player to listen to. Welcome to the wireless world.
While a lot of our habits stay the same the way we do it has changed greatly. For example we still go to work but not to a farm instead a office, and we don’t travel by horse and buggy but instead by car or train. Technology has allowed us to do more faster, and now we can do what we need to do from anywhere. IP Wireless transmission is the next step for television, phones and even cars. Wireless is simply a signal, and IP is an internet protocol kind of like a house address. Through the use of the internet address that is wirelessly connected to the internet, people will be able to get email, listen to music, browse the web and make purchases from anywhere. Technically most office automation jobs can be done almost from anywhere. Unfortunately the office paradigm has not changed primarily due to a stagnant and non-progressive mindset. This mindset believes if I can’t see them (them being the employees) then they aren’t working. Some companies such as Cisco, Microsoft and many government agencies have adopted the work from wherever mindset. The rest of the world will have to catch up.
A world without wires offers unlimited possibilities and of course new obstacles to overcome, if we are to prosper we will have to grow with the times and not against it. Change is inevitable, but it is how we adapt to the change that will determine and shape the future. In the global economy that lies ahead, the wireless tomorrow will determine the future earnings of companies. Thanks to new technologies such as wireless electricity and VoIP (short for voice over IP) new jobs are being injected to our economy. The cars of tomorrow will be rolling wireless multimedia devices that will fuel new markets for business as well as make working abroad that much easier. However one thing to watch is that the fine line between work and home does not become invisible that is if it already hasn’t for most of us. While technology brings wonders to our life, we must remember that technology in all of its splendor should never replace family time or quality of life.
