Affairs cost money. A cheating husband has to pay to play. Whether it’s a one night stand or a long term affair, money is being spent somewhere along the way. The expenditures associated with an extramarital affair can include hotel rooms, flowers, jewelry, dinners at fancy restaurants, lavish gifts, vacations, rent money, spa treatments, car payments, child support - just to name a few.
Several years ago I called attention to the link between financial infidelity and sexual infidelity. A cheating husband usually will usually resort to some form financial infidelity in order to hide the money he’s spending on his affair.
Being upfront with his you about the money he’s spending on the his mistress would mean exposing his affair. So he lies to you, or covers up how his money is being spent, thus committing financial infidelity. Sexual infidelity and financial infidelity usually go hand-and-hand.
3 Famous Cheating Husbands Guilty of Financial Infidelity
To drive home this point, let’s look at 3 well-known cheating husbands who were guilty of financial infidelity linked with sexual infidelity. These high profile cheating husbands made national news when their extramarital affairs were exposed.
1. John Edwards’ mistress, Rielle Hunter was receiving payments of $15,000 a month, but Edwards claimed someone else was making these payments without his knowledge, on his behalf. Though Edwards claimed his affair with Hunter was over in 2006, it seems there was still some financial infidelity going on.
2. Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer paid $3000 for the services of a high priced call girl. It eventually came out that he spent an estimated $80,000 with an elite prostitution ring.
3. Supermodel Christie Brinkley’s husband Peter Cook, gave his teenage mistress $15,000 for a down payment on her car, then paid her $300,000 in hush money not to discuss their affair it was exposed. At the divorce trial, it was revealed that he was spending in excess of $3000 a month on internet porn and adult matchmaker sites.
I seriously doubt that Elizabeth Edwards, Silda Spitzer, or Christie Brinkley knew their husbands were spending that kind of money to initiate and maintain their extramarital affairs. We’re talking major financial infidelity here.
These high profile cheating husbands may be extreme examples of financial infidelity, but it happens to ordinary women on a smaller scale everyday.
Cheating husbands at all income levels tell lies and juggle family finances to keep their wives from finding out about the missing funds. To do otherwise would be to risk exposing the affair.
Stay Alert and Follow the Money Trail
You’ve heard that expression “Follow the money.” It’s good advice to take. If you suspect your husband of cheating on you, it pays to keep a watchful eye on the financial end of things and follow the money trail.
Sexual infidelity and financial infidelity usually go hand in hand. The presence of one type of infidelity can alert you to the existence of the other. In fact, a significant amount of financial infidelity gets exposed at tax time when couples file their joint tax returns. But signs of financial infidelity can turn up any time of the year. Knowing what to look for is the key.
NOTE: Financial infidelity can also be an indication of drug or alcohol addiction, a gambling habit, a major business loss, or some other problem your husband doesn’t want you to know about.
Keep your eye on the family finances. If there’s money missing or suspicious expenditures, take a closer look. If your husband is wining and dining a mistress on the side, paying financial support for a love-child, or liquidating assets in preparation for a surprise divorce, you don’t want to be the last to know.

Why doesn't the law come down harder on these narcissist's? Each of these losers are permitted to go about their lives, having destroyed their families & having permanently harmed their kids, not to mention slamming the good women who loved and trusted them. I think if they had to actually be accountable, there might be a little less ethical bankruptcy out there and more people to look up to and respect.
