In a recent article, I talked about the connection between drinking tea and increasing fertility. But finding a tea, especially a green tea, that you like can be a challenge.
Fortunately for us Dallas ladies who are trying to get pregnant, Village Tea Company is opening soon in the Preston Rd/Forest Ln area, and I've been fortunate enough to do some tea testing with a few of their flavors.
I've never been a big fan of green tea even though I know it's full of healthy ingredients, but the Gentle Organic Lemon Ginger Green Tea from Village Tea Company, and the fact that Jill Blakeway, one of the authors of Making Babies recommends green tea for fertility, has turned me into a green tea lover.
One problem I've always encountered with green tea is that it usually has a bitter taste when I make it. But when I made a pot of the Lemon Ginger Green Tea, I stuck to the guidelines and only steeped it for 3 minutes. It didn't seem like enough time but the tea was perfect.
The tea is loose leaves so you will need a tea infuser or a tea pot with an infuser such as the HuesNBrews I-Pot that can be purchased in Dallas at Target or Wholefoods.
Once the three minute steeping time was up, I poured the tea into my favorite cup, and the aroma was amazing. I've always loved anything lemon, and this tea offers a hardy dose of the wonderful citrus scent. And the hint of ginger is just right. Not too strong but just enough.
And it tasted as great as it smelled. The flavor was soft. I know that sounds like a strange way to describe tea, but I was expecting a harsh taste and this tea was nothing like that. It was light and fruity and a little bit spicy. And I don't know if it was the small amount of caffeine (green tea contains only about 1/15th of the amount of caffeine found in a comparable serving of coffee) or the lemon and ginger but the tea really was the pick-me-up I needed after a long work day.
Along with the other green teas offered by Village Tea Company (I'll talk more about those later), the lemon ginger green tea has become a daily staple for me. I drink it at work to reduce stress and get me through the day and usually again in the evening to help me relax and unwind.
