The second annual Left Coast Live Music Festival & Conference has kicked off this week (June 21 to June 26) in San Jose. With the theme of the “sound of things to come,” the festival combines live music performances, films, panels, and other events to transform the downtown into a haven for Bay Area music lovers.
Although events will be taking place all week, the most exciting part of Left Coast Live will happen on Friday and Saturday with more than 100 music performances spread across South First Street and 20 downtown venues.
Headliners on the main stage include OK Go (listen), Ya La Tengo (listen), Neon Trees (listen), Crash Kings (listen), and Free Energy (listen).
Several local South Bay indie bands will be on hand, including Doctor Nurse, Lisa Dewey & The Lotus Life, Kung Fu Vampire, Northern Son, The Mumlers, INSOLENCE, So Timeless and Careless Hearts. Other noteworthy acts include J*DaVeY, Kero One, Darondo, and Big Jay McNeely.
In addition, dozens of other local and regional DJs, bands and performers will provide a diverse and steady stream of music options. The full schedule is available here and you can browse a list of artists here.
In its second year, Left Coast Live is great opportunity for indie music fans in the South Bay to support local bands and live music events. While it may be a while before Left Coast Live can attain the clout and cultural heft of SXSW, there is no doubt that San Jose has the potential to someday give Austin a little West Coast competition. The raw ingredients are certainly all here – talented musicians and performers, an arts community, tech innovators, and an eager base of local indie and live music fans.
Tickets for Friday and Saturday are available as a 1-Day Pass ($15 presale / $20 at gate) or a 2-Day Pass ($25 presale / $30 presale). Several bands have discount codes, so check your favorite artists’ website and you might be able to save a couple dollars off the pre-sale price. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at Streetlight Records (Campbell or Santa Cruz) and Good Karma restaurant (downtown San Jose). Tickets can also be purchased (CASH ONLY) at the festival gate (map).
