CTE's self-titled debut album in 2008
Economy. Bailout. Pirates. Not the words you want to hear right now. So how about something better…free? As you may have already known the iTunes music store gives away one free download every week of a pre-selected song. The songs are pretty hit or miss, but this week they got it right for indie rockers.
This week’s free download is “Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked” by Cage The Elephant. CTE have yet to make mainstream noise in the states but overseas they are drawing some buzz. “Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked” hit #32 on the UK Singles Chart last year and if there’s one thing true of the world it’s that the UK knows its music and specifically its indie rock. The song reminds me of what the music child of The White Stripes and Beck would sound like if the artists were crossed in some kind of bio-musical-engineering lab.
Cage The Elephant will be playing two shows for the Jersey crowd this summer. First, they’ll be at Bamboozle East on May 2nd in East Rutherford. The other time you can catch them will be the second day of the All Points West Festival in Jersey City alongside other indie rockers and UK favorites, the Arctic Monkeys.
