Did you know that it can cost as little as $2.26 to provide a warm meal for someone in need? The $5 cover charges collected for tonight's Music to the Rescue! benefit show will be going to the Nashville Rescue Mission so they can do just that.
Nick Britt, of the rock band Eurydice, organized tonight's show, which includes performances by Eurydice and Ben Sturgell.
Sturgell, from Dayton, Ohio originally, moved to Murfreesboro to pursue his musical career. While there, he organized the Music Box Lounge... which has unique origins. One night Ben Sturgell had a dream that featured music, dancers, and art inside a bubble. He couldn't quite make out all of what was going on until that bubble burst! Then, he could hear both the music and the lyrics to the song in the dream. He says this is the only time he's written an entire song in his sleep. But the song, Music Box, was all in the dream. After recording the song, he tried to recreate the environment of the dream by staging shows in Murfreesboro that included live music, DJs, live painting, dancers, and any other forms of entertainment he could find.
The monthly show has played for many years in different venues around town, and Sturgell hopes to bring the fun to Nashville in 2010.
To catch Sturgell and friends before the new year, however, head over to 3rd & Lindsley tonight. The lineup also includes Mattina Scarpino, Shawn Mayer, Micah Mundy, The Florida Georgia Line, and Eurydice. And don't forget, it's for a good cause! If you're feeling extra generous, they will also be accepting donations of food, coats, and blankets at tonight's show.
