Louisville musician Tony Bailey dead at age 31.

Tony Bailey was 8 years younger than me. I learned more about the "art" of drumming from him than from anyone else. I first heard Tony drum w/ Crain at that pizza joint in St. Mathews (the name escapes me, but Tony would have remembered), which is now Saints. I decided at that moment to seek out any show that Tony was playing. I saw him play with Hedge, Out, Cherub Scourge, Horse-head Nebula Revue, Calf-Fiends, Parlour, Crappy Nightmareville, Retsin, Starman Jones, Party Girls, Orange Telephone, Brothers of Conquest, Lords, Gaj Mustafa Cell, Verktum, Bofa (one show w/ Alex, Todd, & Elijah), Phantom Family Halo, Dead Child, and most recently the tribute to Alice Cooper "Black Ju Ju." 

He turned me on to so many different types of music that I nearly let pass me by (to many examples to list). Knowing I was a huge Ramones fan, ... he invited me over to watch the "End of the Century" documentary, when it first came out. We both cried at the end realizing that no one had picked up Joey's award at their Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. After we cried, we laughed, because grown men aren't supposed to cry. Right? Wrong! If Grown men cried more often, the entire world might be a better place.

A memorial for Tony will be held for Tony at Skull Alley on Sunday, October 4th from 6pm - 10pm. Those that knew and loved Tony are welcome. No Alcohol. Folks are encouaged to bring refreshments and finger foods.
