Zo! (Lorenzo Ferguson) is one of today’s most eclectic and skilled producers. His latest release, SunStorm, debuted on July 27th and is clearly an album in a league of its own. With its perfect blend of jazz, soul and hip-hop, SunStorm delivers a masterful conglomerate of musicianship, vocal artistry and storytelling, reminiscent to Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life” and Roy Ayers “Vibrations”

While the Southfield native is widely known for his production work with Slum Village, he has also worked with the Grammy-nominated Hip-hop/Soul group, The Foreign Exchange (+FE).  SunStorm is a12-track epic adventure featuring appearances from Darien Brockington Phonte, & YahZarah (see review on http://soulintrigue.blogspot.com) singer/songwriter Eric Roberson and Detroit’s own Monica Blaire.

The album begins with the head bobbing, life anthem “Greater Than the Sun” featuring Phonte. This track sends a powerful message of acceptance despite one’s challenges in life. The ultra smooth "This Could Be The Night," featuring Darien Brockington, Grammy-nominated indie soul artist Eric Roberson, and Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother serves as the album’s first single. SunStorm concludes with the erotic track “Make Luv to Me” featuring vocals from Monica Blaire. Monica Blaire sends an audacious declaration as she belts, “Make Luv to Me/with intention/and purpose”. This track is already being coined as the next “baby making” songs by fans of Zo! at the Foreign Exchange music website.

SunStorm is arguably one of the best releases of 2010. Zo! puts his heart and soul into every track. The LP breaks away from the mundane overuse of beat machines and catchy hooks to sell records. It is truly an oasis for listeners longing for the heart and soul of music to be revitalized.
