Add Evanescence to the list of bands with booted members going off on their own to form a new project, hoping to best their former band mates.
When singer Amy Lee dropped the ax on three members of Evanescence they set off to form, well virtually the same band casting American Idol alum Carly Smithson as their new Amy Lee in a gothicy rockish female fronted band, er wait…didn’t they do that already?
The band
We Are The Fallen apparently a tongue-in-cheek remark to Lee named after the Evanescence album
Fallen. Smithson is joined by guitarist/songwriter Ben Moody, guitarist John Lecompt, and drummer Rocky Gray in their new band.
Already launching material on
their site, the band respectfully is pretty good and pretty much sounds like an Evanescence knock off. They are already planning for fall tour dates.
Lee, whom has pretty much gone solo after running out of band mates to fire is working on her own album and offered the following statement on Spin.com:
Will Fallen get a fair shake from the fans though? It is yet to be seen. Where some replace the the singer acts go on to live in infamy others like Velvet Revolver, some forms of Motley Crue, and Audioslave can never go on to outshine the original grouping.
Time will tell when tour dates kick off. Download Fallen's first single here.
