Music that Makes you Dumb
CalTech student Virgil Griffith has produced an extremely interesting study that a friend of mine came across about what types of music are actually killing your brain cells. You may want to take a shotgun to your CD collections after this one kids.
Griffith related music preferences to SAT scores in test subjects finding the students scoring higher on tests were listening to more classical types where as the students more into R&B, rap, and rock were scoring average on the exam.
Some students noting their favorite artist as Beethoven scored an average of 1371 as where the group of students that liked Lil Wayne averaged at 889.
Other bands that the smarties favored were Counting Crows, U2, Guster, Ben Folds, Bob Dylan, The Shins, and Norah Jones.
As where those listening to adult contemporary, classic rock, alternative ranged on average from 1036 to the 1300’s, students liking rap, jazz, country music and Kelly Clarkson ranked at 1000 and below.
The lowest test scores belonging to fans of Lil Wayne closely tailed by Beyonce, all fans of gospel, and T.I.
The numbers show that perhaps what you listen to really has an effect on how your brain works. I couldn’t make this up if I tried.

and you don't think this might have anything to do with, i don't know, the unequal education system in this country and its bias against minorities?
Virgil has caused quite the stir. His suggestion that "Music makes you dumb" is really quite absurd but there's undeniable correlation.
In my opinion, no music makes you unintelligent. If Albert Einstein turned on "Lil Wayne" the lowest intelligent music on Virgil's graph, would that transform him to dumb?
To better understand the correlation Virgil has identified, all you have to do is flip the cause and effect.
Instead of "Music makes you dumb."
Reverse it to:
"Your intelligence is indicated by your musical taste."
In so many words, the article below proves that people who enjoy music WITHOUT words are more intellectual than people who DO NOT like music WITHOUT words. Enjoy!
