A noose was found in the Giesel Library two days ago and now the person who put the noose up has been found.  She has therefore been sentenced to suspension for causing unrest and feelings of terror.  The ethnicity of the 'noose girl' is unknown for now and this is really bothering a lot of people out there who wish to know "WHO DID THIS?" and "WHY?"

Many informative reports have been made about the 'noose girl' being found and all of these online reports have been met with those on the hunt for the real culprit like in the film Clue where everyone is a suspect.  Other students have frequented these forums and comment boards to try and talk sense into an angry mob.  They say things like this found on a KPBS report.  This comment was posted by Expat:

Dude, you seriously have to stop guessing. We communicate just fine, but quit putting theories out there, things are bad enough as it is. BSU announced that they would leave at 5pm and they did. End of story. The identity of a suspect shouldn't be released in such an emotionally charged case, common sense.
Just because something is possible, just because rumors are circulating, and just because demonstrators are capable to disband without chaos breaking out doesn't mean anything, so just chill. We'll know much more tomorrow.

On the same comment thread another person, who is named as LC, wrote:

The rumor now circulating is that the student involved in hanging the noose was non-white, and the administration is keeping mum about her identity to avoid more trouble. It is possible that the student was sympathetic to the protesters' cause.

The fact that the BSU quietly decamped from the Chancellor's office lends some credibility to this claim, as does the fact that the unnamed student is not being charged with a hate crime, and is not being permanently ejected from campus.

This tug and pull from those agitated and those trying to quell the flames is one reason why there is all this news about the issue.  Some people want to hate, they want to place blame where blame is due, without realizing that blaming is hate and it takes a part in the crime.  Hate allows a crime to continue.

What does it matter who did it?  It was done, it was wrong, this we know.  Why should one person have the unfortunate luck of placing a stereotypical burden on to the rest of their people when it was one action created by one individual, without the consultation of an entire people.

Searching for the ethnicity of the perpetrator has certainly turned into a 'witch hunt.'  Wikipedia describes 'Witch Hunt' as:

The term "witch-hunt" is often used by analogy to refer to panic-induced searches for perceived wrong-doers other than witches. The best known example is probably the McCarthyist search for communists during the Cold War,[2][3] which was discredited partly through being compared to the Salem witch trials.[2]

For more information on the phantom noose woman you can buzz about the internet from article to article where you will hear many subjective answers.  Be knowledgeable that the real answer will surface soon enough, so the 'witch hunt' is hardly necessary.

If indeed the person was non-white as is rumored around campus, this would diffuse the situation of blame being showered upon innocent whites. Wanted this person identified is a step towards healing the hate of false blame. There is no shortage of outrage against supposed white-racism, it's been paraded -literally- around campus this past week. It is hypocrity to not pay attention to the actual crime of villifying innocent people, in this case white, by ignoring the race of the person who did this.

Hey, I was on that comment thread and said something to the effect that having discovered its a female, I think that its 50-50% chance that its either a black female or another underrepresented minority (i.e. Latina). It is passing strange that the ethnicity of the perp hasn't been released, seeing as how it is such a racially - ethnically charged situation. Right now white kids are getting tarred (by implication) with 'making the campus unsafe'. When/if it does turn out to be a non-white, the fact will be quickly downplayed and the impression in the public's mind will be that UCSD is some kind of Klavern. This, of course, gives the Black Student Union tremendous leverage in demanding stuff from the administration.

In a related development, the a black 'entertainer' has stepped forward as the main organizer of the infamous 'Compton Cookout' -- apparently he puts on these kinds of things for a living. Not to say PKA showed really bad judgement in getting involved with him, but they are what, 20-21, and this guy is mid-30's. Google 'jiggaboo jones' --that's what he calls himself -- and UCSD.

Hi all! Thanks for your comment. I wrote an article on Jiggaboo Jones and and article on the noose in the library. The JJ article talks about how he is a comedian who puts on the events for his show and dvd release. He has been doing the events all over the country since 2005. The noose article compared the outcome of finding a black person responsible for the noose as opposed to finding a white person responsible.

Finding that the 'noose girl' was not white would take heat off of the white hate on campus but it would also place hate if the 'noose girl' ended up being black. It is like a tug of war where no one wins and everyone ends up in the mud-pot. I don't see how there is so much racism on the UCSD campus, thinking about it makes me very sad. I never experienced racism while I was there, at least not anything that made me feel unsafe or uncomfortable, nor did I dish it out. I hope you all are dealing well and that things cool down very soon!

Also, Jones reported recently that he even took steps to tone down this year's UCSD event because last year he had students attend his party and get into unneeded racial fights and they had to be escorted from the party.

I am curious to know if there was a lot of racial tension before this event? And how this event has effected things as far as the equilibrium of the campus goes.

Black white or otherwise, she should go to jail. Stirring up false charges of racism is as hateful an act as actual racism.

I agree John! Reminds me of Geraldo Rivera when he painted a swastika on his forehead in the late 80's and claimed to have been attacked. It was later discovered that he had painted it himself while looking in the mirror, therefore, the image was backwards. He was trying to fuel racial tensions and boost his ratings.

Katie; Placing blame where there is guilt is not hate, but is indeed closer to love. Victims must be protected, would you object to blaming a rapist? a killer of a child?; I would hope not. Maybe you're shy to blame black prepetrators as opposed to white ones, this is a sign of moral cowardice and the fear of being branded racist. By all signs, the campus is racist against white, seeking to vilify them at any opportunity. Soon whites will shed the fear of this label, be free of it, and become more vocal and outspoken of their unique needs as a group, just as all others do now.

    Thanks for your comments!

Shaun, I am not sure how blame = love, but you do have a point. And as for your comment right after the 'blame' statement, it kind of certified everything I said in my article. I don't really have suspicions as to who planted the noose or what race the girl was, because the way I see it, it could be anyone. And yet you assumed that I was speaking only on behalf of the perpetrator if she should happen to be Black. I was speaking for all racial groups when I said:

"Why should one person have the unfortunate luck of placing a stereotypical burden on to the rest of their people(..)"

If you assumed I was speaking only for one race in our grand scheme you should probably take another glance at my words and then re-read them as what they are instead of what you wished them to be.

Being eager to place blame based on biased assumptions in regards to race is equal to hate.

The L.A. Times reports that a "minority" placed the noose in the library. This is a self perpetrated hate crime to blame Whites.

    Read for yourselves:

"I know what I did was offensive -- regardless of my intentions -- I am just trying to say I’m sorry. As a minority student who sympathizes with the students that have been affected by the recent issues on campus, I am distraught to know that I have unintentionally added to their pain," wrote the student..."

You can all stop the drama now! And you all need to apologize to the UCSD campus for the false accusations.

What a Scam! The Scarf was Planted by a Black Supporter of the Black Student Union! The Black Demonstrators and their Liberal Nazi Supporters need to make a public apology to the White Students of UCSD immediately!

It is also a joke to see crying UCSD Black Students on TV claiming they're "afraid" for their safety at UCSD because of the Compton Cookout party & followup fracas. why is it a joke -- Because these students are safer at UCSD than in their own neighborhoods. Blacks account for over half of all Homicides & Robberies in the USA even though they're 13% of the population. Black on Black crime is rampant so any place where Blacks are a low percent of the population is, by definition, a safer place for Black Students. (Jesse Jackson said as much when he said that if he hears footsteps behind him & he turns around & sees a white face he is relieved).
UCSD students should also know that Black on White Crime, accounts for the overwhelming amount of Interracial Crime, (90%).

So...you DON'T think it's important to find out if white racism is rampant on campus, as suggested? Because finding out if the perp in this case was non-white certainly kills the hate crime spree theory. It also ruins the cred of the BSU if any affiliation is found.

    Oppps

    Your thoughts?

Truth, Of course I think it is important to find out WHO planted the noose but if the person is working on their own behalf without support or some sort of group vote, it really isn't fair to label a whole community. And it definitely isn't fair/nice/unbiased to PRE-label a whole community (aka blame without evidence or proof for no reason other than anger or scape-goatism).

From all the posts, websites, campus articles, and news segments it is obvious that there are all types of racism present, white, black, etc. That was never the issue, that is known and voiced loud and clear. Unless you find that the BSU planted the noose together in some solidarity statement, finding the noose girl to be Black will not prove much of what you are hoping. Same goes for finding the noose girl as White, Hispanic, Arab, Scandinavian, etc. etc. A single individual is speaking alone unless proven otherwise. We don't need proof to know that there are a lot of racist people out there, it's known.

It matters, because if the Koala was run by African Americans there wouldn't be a problem with what they said.
