Today a trailer for Steven Soderbergh's "The Informant" hit the web. The film centers on the true story of Mark Whitacre (Damon) and his surreal job as a corporate snitch in his company ADM on behalf of the FBI. The film is based on the non-fiction bestseller of the same name which can be found here.
The story is one of those bizarre cases of "that can only happen in a movie" type stories, but we all know that truth is stranger than fiction. Not only did Whitacre suffer from manic depressive disorder while working with the FBI, but he also implicated himself as a corporate swindler during said informing and spent close to eight and a half years in a prison "camp" for multiple counts of fraud. It's not rocket science why this story was made into a movie at this point in our political and financial climate (Here's lookin' at you, Madoff).
The trailer...and the film boasts an incredible cast of character actors (Scott Bakula, Patton Oswalt, Joel McHale) and really showcases what we all know in our hearts: Matt Damon is one of the greatest, unappreciated, and underused comic actors of our generation. Plus everyone's funnier with a late eighties/ early nineties mustache.
"The Informant" hits theaters October 9, just in time for a Best Actor campaign for Damon.
