Palm Springs Shortfest film review The 20 second rule

That's what you get for being so annoying. Photo/Palm Springs shortfest.

Anyone who has been annoyed by one of those pesky "phone solicitors" needs to watch this short film directed by Clay Delauney.

"The 20 Second Rule" is the "golden" few seconds that will mean you MIGHT make a sale over the phone. However, if you don't get past that twenty second mark...you're dead meat.

Jay Laisne plays the really annoying phone solicitors for all he's worth.  He will not be denied his 20 seconds. When people hang up, he simply calls back and keeps talking. HOW ANNOYING IS THAT???

In the course of his job he finally gets to the phone number of a "voodoo priestess". She is very busy!! She tells him "never to call her number again". However, he had to at least try for his 20 seconds. BIG MISTAKE. He calls back, just to have the priestess yell some really scary sounding "voodoo" language into the phone, and PUFF! Our annoying phone solicitor loses the ability to speak the words he thinks he is saying, instead voicing some totally "off the wall" statements, two or three word "smutty nonsense sentences" and it's all laughs from there.

This 13 minute film is a laugh from the first several seconds. I highly recommend Jay Laisne as an actor, as his comedic timing is suburb. And director Clay Delauney makes the whole process look easy, which it isn't

Good job. Great film.
