Movie Review Last Cup: The Road to the World Series of Beer Pong

Have some fun, watch "Last Cup." Poster/Official site.

"Last Cup" is a documentary about "The World Series of Beer Pong."

For those of you who aren't acquainted with Beer Pong, please read about it here.

This documentary covers several teams as they strive to get to, and win the world series of Beer Pong. A lot of ping pong balls are forced to drink a lot of beer.  Seemingly normal human beings choose to drink the beer that the ping pong balls leave behind. The team that makes the other team drink more beer wins.

One thing among many that this documentary teaches is that players of Beer Pong consider it a sport.

The WSOBP was created by Billy Gaines and Duncan Carroll. "Last Cup" takes you along to the big show with champions; past, present and future.

This documentary brings to light a sport that many don't know even exists. I was vaguely aware of Beer Pong, the WSOBP has been held in or near Las Vegas each year. Las Vegas is my home turf, we get some pretty unusual conventions here. Beer Pong fits in well.

One of the things that made this doc so fun for me is that it combines two of my favorite things. One of my favorite movies...BASEketball, which is about two friends who create a game that becomes a popular sport.  The other thing is  that game at carnivals where the little bowls float around in water and you win a prize for getting a ping pong ball inside one. I LOVE THAT GAME!!!

There is a serious side to this film, it has to do with young men who are at a crossroad in their life. You can't play Beer Pong forever, eventually one needs to find a real job to support oneself and ones family. In the world of Beer Pong, there are two kinds of players; people who have a job and play on their off time, and guys who play full time and have no job.

Controversy has arisen between players that work and players that don't. Players that work claim that non-working players have more time to practice....and drink.

"Last Cup" has been an official selection of several film festivals including....The Oxford Film Festival, Los Angeles United Film Festival among others.

You can purchase the DVD at B-Side's official site for "Last Cup"
