Imagine Science Film Festival New York City Oct 15-24

A unique film festival in New York City. Photo/ISFF.

Coming to NYC Oct. 15-24, the Imagine Science Film Festival.

Audiences will join a; Nobel Laureate, a moon-walker, four Academy Awards nominees, scientists-turned-directors and international filmmakers for an exploration of science through the moving image during the 10 day Imagine Science Film Festival.

This festival consists of 50 films from 9 countries.

Panel discussions will be held with the festival's; actors, directors, journalists and scientists, including Eric Kandel, Harry Kloor, and jad Abumrad.

A variety of screening venues allows ISFF to deliver the message of "science for everyone:"  to a wide audience of every background.

Lexis Gambis Ph.D. is the Artistic Director and Founder of the "Imagine Science Film Festival." He points out that "There is a definite need to create a dialogue between scientists and the public." "The ISFF provides a creative platform for scientists to share their inspiration with the public in relatable and engaging ways."

Dr. Gambis is a scientist and a filmmaker. In June of this year he earned his Ph.D in genetics and molecular biology from The Rockerfeller University. This September, Dr. Gambis began his studies as a film student at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.

The ISFF screenings are open to the public. The venues for this year are; Tribeca Cinemas, Galapagos Art Space, New York Hall of Science, The Bell House, CUNY Graduate Center, and The New School.

Some of the films being shown are:

2000, a documentary science fiction

Chances Are

So Far and Soar

Problems

Inside Me

Ginger

The Incident at Tower 37

Wormhole Chasers

Skylight

Skylab

The Ecstasy and Agony of Planet X

There are so many more. Shorts, animated, feature, documentary.

One of the films playing is entitled "Decoding Alan Turing," this film is a must see. Turing was a unique man who was way ahead of his time. A Cambridge Mathematician whose work "On Computable Numbers," is the basis of todays programmable computers. His work continues to affect the world today.

This festival is very unique, there isn't another like it that I've found. If you live in NY or can get there, I don't think you will be disappointed.
