Curiosity is an 11 minute short film written and directed by Toby Spanton. The short stars Emily Blunt, of The Young Victoria, and Tom Riley. Set in an English suburb, opening with a sun drenched afternoon, Emma (Blunt) and Mike (Riley) are returning to their flat. An elderly neighbor woman named Mrs. Kessler is greeted by them and the common neighborly exchange is made. Cut to the apartment the couple share at night. Mike hears a strange noise and observes a figure dragging something along the back square.
To Emma’s protest, Mike’s curiosity gets the best of him and he must know exactly what he has seen. Who was the shadowy figure in the courtyard? What could he have possibly been pulling behind him? As the events unfold, the horrors displayed are sharp and thoughtful. Spanton gives everything that a full length horror film does in Curiosity, but he fits all the pieces into an 11 minute package. This thriller gives an alarming view of what people really do want to know about what goes on behind their neighbors’ doors. The film conveys the stark message of its title, curiosity. This film isn’t available in stores, it can be purchased here on iTunes. It’s cheaper than a local rental, and it’s yours to keep.
