Film Racing began a competition in New York in 2002, asking the question, can you make a movie in 24 hours? The competition has since become the Film Racing Tour and this year, it will begin in Boston this Friday, March 26 at 10:00pm. Filmmakers will be challenged to make an original short film on a given theme with a surprise element. All completed films will premiere at a public screening at Cambridge’s Brattle Theatre on Thursday, April 1. Boston’s top films will then go on to compete against other films across North America for thousands of dollars in cash prizes, scholarships, and more.

Submitted films should be no more than three minutes and thirty seconds in length (not including credits) with no minimum length requirement. Films should be submitted on mini-DV, DVD, or QuickTime DV File, and backups are recommended. All films will be due at a yet to be announced drop-off location on Saturday, March 27 at 10:00pm. Late films may still be submitted for the screening up until midnight, but will not be eligible for prizes.

The deadline for team registration is this Wednesday, March 24 with a team entry fee of $139. Those needing to fill a crew position on their team, or those who are looking to join an already existing team should visit the Boston Film Race 2010 Facebook event page and discussion forums, or visit filmracing.com’s cast/crew forums to connect with fellow Boston filmmakers. For more information on registration, to download all required release forms, and watch the top films from previous Boston film races, visit the official site of the Boston Film Race here.

After leaving Boston, the tour will continue on to Minneapolis, Chicago, Austin, New York, Miami, San Francisco, and Seattle. Dates for other cities will be announced shortly.
