Rita Moreno, who played Anita in the 1961 classic West Side Story, will be in Naperville on April 10th along with cast members George Chakiris (Bernardo) and Russ Tamblyn (Riff). Moreno and Chakiris both won Academy Awards (Best Supporting Actress and Actor) for the film adaptation of Leonard Bernstein’s famed Broadway play.
The movie West Side Story was both a commercial and critical success in its day and dominated the Academy Awards for the year of its release. In addition to the wins by Moreno and Chakiris, the Romeo and Juliet storyline set to music also won Best Picture, Best Director (Robert Wise) and not surprisingly Best Musical Score.
Rita and her fellow cast members will introduce showings of West Side Story at both the Hollywood Palms Cinema in Naperville and The Hollywood Blvd Cinema in Woodridge and will be on hand to meet movie patrons and sign autographs.
The West Side Story event is one of a continuing series of celebrity events hosted by Hollywood Palms and Hollywood Blvd Cinemas.
