What do you do with a young talented filmmaker that wants to write, direct, and produce? You get out of his way and let him perform his filmmaker magic tricks. Baltimore filmmaker Grasshopper is unique in his approach and his style to filmmaking. Everyone around him can tell. It's obvious that Grasshopper like most Baltimore filmmakers has a vision of what he wants to accomplish in film. A year from now Grasshopper wants to see his company being global - running from meeting to meeting and from state to state to production company's demanding the ideas and concepts of Grasshopper Philms for the silver screen and television networks.
The Grasshopper Philms founder was born and raised in East Baltimore. The indie films that Grasshopper has done include - Passers By, Recess, Demple Boyten, BROKE', CUP. Grasshopper currently has three indie films currently in post production and scripts just waiting to be let out of the gate. Coming soon will be the release of the film Better Recognize Theater. It's the story of two cousins that unknowingly rent a video tape belonging to a underground cult of kung-fu flick enthusiast, they fail to return it in a timely fashion and let's just say it gets very entertaining from that point. Grasshopper doesn't limit himself. He just put the finishing touches on a documentary called WATERBOY.
Baltimore's magician of filmmaking has scripts, pitches and log lines that haven't been touched yet. It's safe to say that Grasshopper will not be running out of work anytime soon. Grasshopper made it a point to have his work screened at several local venues, art houses, living rooms, basements, bars and lounges throughout the state. The Patterson Theater, The Senator Theater and The Baltimore Museum of Art have all had the magician of filmmaking bring his work through their doors. Grasshopper is currently a two time CAMM SLAMM 48hour movie making champ two years straight. Grasshopper is going for his third at this years 2010 competition. From a short film acquisition with a media group of Russell Simmons and Stan Lathan to plugging a few projects in the festival circuit, Grasshopper is looking to give birth to mass appeal and to give a fresh face lift to the filmmaking media.
Grasshoppers biggest influence for being a filmmaker would be God for blessing him with the gift to express himself as an artist, his father Theodore Robinson who passed those traits to his son and filmmaker Melvin Van Peoples talent and style.
