Indianapolis Colts S Bob Sanders officially ruled out of 2009 regular-season opener

The Indianapolis Colts made what was expected official on Friday, ruling two-time Pro Bowl safety Bob Sanders out of the regular-season opener.

Sanders, the 2007 Associated Press NFL Defensive Players of the Year, spent the preseason on the Physically Unable to Perform list with a knee issue before being moved to the active roster this past weekend. The Colts haven't yet set a precise timetable for his return, but he is expected to play sometime in the next five weeks.

Sanders missed 10 games last season and 12 in 2006.

Also, Colts CB Marlin Jackson -- who missed the last half of last season with a knee injury -- did not practice for non-injury related/rest reasons.

Other Colts players ruled out for Sunday's regular-season opener against Jacksonville are TE Tom Santi (ankle) and S Jamie Silva (abdomen). CB Tim Jennings, who missed practice for non-injury related/rest seasons Thursday, returned Friday, and rookie DT Fili Moala -- who missed practice Thursday ad Friday with a knee injury, is listed as questionable.

Head Coach Jim Caldwell said with DT Ed Johnson on a one-game suspension this week, the Colts likely will use a defensive tackle rotation of Antonio Johnson, Dan Muir and Eric Foster.
