Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning shares thoughts on the passing of Steve McNair

A bit more than a half-decade ago, Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning shared one of the NFL's most prestigious awards with Steve McNair.

On Saturday evening, Manning shared a public farewell to the late Tennessee Titans quarterback.

McNair, who played 13 NFL seasons and played in three Pro Bowls before retiring following the 2007 NFL season, was shot and killed on Saturday in downtown Nashville, Tenn. The former Titans and Baltimore Ravens quarterback was 36.

Manning and McNair shared the Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award in 2003, the second season Manning/the Colts and McNair/the Titans played in the AFC South.

Said Manning in a statement:

Steve McNair was one of the greatest competitors I've ever played against.  I'll always remember playing against him. Many of our defensive players talked about what a huge challenge it was playing against him.  He and I had some great battles against each other.  Sharing the NFL MVP honor with him in 2003 was special because of what a great football player he was.  I had the opportunity to play in a couple of Pro Bowls with him and the time spent with him in Hawaii I'll never forget.  I'll truly miss him.  My condolences go out to his family.
