Indianapolis Colts 2010 offseason primer: The Tight Ends

In the fourth of a series, Indy Football Report Editor John Oehser continues to break down the Colts' roster entering the 2010 offseason . . .

PART FOUR: THE TIGHT ENDS . . .

Indianapolis Colts TE Dallas Clark stopped waiting a while ago.

And he sure stopped worrying.

Clark, who in 2010 will enter his eighth NFL season, for several seasons missed the Pro Bowl despite putting up elite numbers. For a while, he said it bothered him a bit, then he said since it wasn't something he could control, and since there were good players passed over each year, there was little point in worrying.

Finally this past season, Clark put up a season that couldn't be ignored.

So it was that when Clark made the Pro Bowl this past season, he not only made it, but he made it as a starter, and also was named Associated Press first-team All-Pro.

So, when it comes to the Colts' tight end position, it's safe to say it's a team strength.

And the primary reason is Clark.

In Clark, the Colts have a unique player at the position, and while he may be far from the NFL-prototype, Todd Heap-type player that once defined the position, in the team's scheme he is essential.

Clark, who caught 58 passes for 616 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2007 and 77 passes for 848 yards and six touchdowns in 2008, set career-highs in all major statistical categories this past season, catching 100 passes for 1,106 yards and 11 touchdowns.
