The point guard situation for the Indiana Pacers became a little clearer on Friday after backup Travis Diener said he will pick up the option on his contract in order to remain with the team for another season, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Diener had the option to opt out of his contract, but the 6-foot-1 guard from Marquette decided to stay with the Pacers for a third year. According to HoopsHype.com, Diener is scheduled to make $1.74 million next season. Diener said:
I like playing for coach (Jim) O'Brien. He has a system that fits my style, and I'm looking forward to returning to a team that is going in the right direction."
Of the four point guards currently on the Pacers roster, only two will be on the court during the 2009-10 campaign (barring a trade). Starter T.J. Ford and Diener will be under contract, while Jarrett Jack is a restricted free agent. Jamaal Tinsley is also under contract, but isn’t expected back with the team.
Diener’s decision could affect the Pacers on draft night next Thursday. Several good point guards are expected to be available when Indiana drafts with the No. 13 pick.

Comments
The Pacers will never win with a point guard by the name of Travis. This is more of a bass fishing championship name. T.J and Jarrett are also sissy names for the NBA. I would opt to bring back Jamaal and his posse. At least Tinsley keeps the Pacers in the national spotlight, even if it is at 3AM.
