Former IU recruit Kiel South Bend bound?

Gunner Kiel, the nation's top school boy quarterback who backed out of an oral pledge to IU and was set to enroll early at LSU this week, may be changing his mind again. Recruiting sources indicate Kiel is planning to enroll at Notre Dame this week, marking another wild turn of events in his recruitment.

Kiel, a 6-foot-4-inch, 220-pound Columbus, Ind., native is Rivals.com's No. 1 quarterback and No. 18 overall prospect in the Class of 2012. He committed to IU last summer but rescinded it in October as the Hoosiers endured a train wreck of a season. Older brother Dusty split time starting with Ed Wright-Baker as the Hoosiers QB before both gave way to true freshman Tre Roberson. Interestingly, both Dusty Kiel and Baker have left the IU program.

Classes begin at LSU and Notre Dame for the spring semester on Tuesday. Reportedly, Kiel did not attend a orientation session for new enrollees at LSU.

The IU quarterback job appears firmly in the grasp of Roberson, though the Hoosiers did add junior- college QB Cameron Coffman to the roster last week.
